Cost/Service and Timeline
Cost/Service provided:
- Host sites pay $5,500 match for a FULL-TIME member
Full time members serve 1700 hours, however, not all of those hours are served in the school. In addition to direct service, members spend time in training and engaged in community service projects. Host sites can plan on a full-time member "getting things done" on site approximately 38 hours per week. Literacy Support Corps members typically begin "on site" service in the week prior to the first day of school and complete service in mid-June.
Time Line:
- May 2008: Recruitment of members and host sites for 2008-2009 program year begins
- May 30, 2008: Priority host sites identified
- May and June, and July 2008: WORD screens and interviews applicants
- June, July and August, 2008: Site placements determined by WORD and host site
- August 4, 2008: Team Leaders begin service
- August 15, 2008: Full time members begin service
- August 21, 2008: members attend orientation training
- September: Individual site meetings to determine site priorities and member work plan priorities
- October 15, 2008: Host site match payment due to WORD
