Full Time Member Service Description

The member supports day to day operations of the Family Resource Center under the direction of the building principal and the Literacy Support Corps Program Director. The goals of service include:
  • Building partnerships with educators, families, and communities in support of education
  • Increasing family involvement in education
  • Strengthen family literacy
  • Increasing volunteerism and civic engagement in education
  • Enhance leadership skills in members
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people including parents, teachers, administrators, children, community and public officials, and business owners
  • Demonstrate high energy and willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends
  • Demonstrate ability to initiate, self-direct, and evaluate Family Resource Center activities
  • Access to a reliable mode of transportation and ability to transport materials (up to 30 pounds) needed for activities
  • Outreach to all families, regardless of family structure, at times of day most appropriate to them
  • Ability to locate community resources that support families and education
  • Committed to the right of a quality education for all children
  • Possess a sense of humor!
Duties:
  • Develop and maintain a welcoming atmosphere in a Family Resource Center
  • Plan, organize and facilitate Center activities
  • Recruit and manage volunteers
  • Recruit a Parent Advisory Group and facilitate meetings to develop Center programming
  • Seek and manage Center resources including donations and services
  • Maintain effective Center records including activity reports, evaluations, donation and volunteer efforts, newsletters, and monthly project reports
  • Participate in team meetings and trainings
  • Model a strong commitment to service
Full-Time Team Leader Service Description
The Team Leader is a Full-Time AmeriCorps position (minimum 1700 hours within Program Year: August 1 - July 31). Team Leaders do not serve as supervisors to members of their team, rather his/her role is to:
  • Develop team spirit and camaraderie
  • Lead and mentor members in service performance
  • Assist with trainings
  • Develop and lead team community service projects
  • Assist in Program development
  • Coordinate and facilitate team meetings
  • Play an active role in developing leadership ability among team members
Team Leaders are expected to stay "ahead of the curve" in serving their team. Team Leaders model leadership qualities and continually seek ways to strengthen teamwork. A Team Leader must possess or be willing to learn the following skill and ability sets:
  • Group and meeting facilitation
  • Communication including active listening, writing, and reporting
  • Creative problem solving and conflict management
  • Data collection
  • Peer training
  • Resource and referral
Service Duties and Responsibilities are as follows:

Assist in Literacy Support Corps Program development and management
  • Attend monthly or bi-monthly planning meetings with Program management
  • Plan and coordinate team community service projects during the year of service with one project occurring on or near Make a Difference Day, Martin Luther King Day, and during National Volunteer Week
  • Serve with ACMAC (a statewide AmeriCorps/VISTA member advisory group)
  • Act as a liaison between members/host sites and program management such as relaying information and resources
  • Network with community agencies building resources for Family Resource Centers
  • Assist in project data collection and reporting
  • Assist in planning and training of members
  • Assist in production of the Family Resource Centers e-newsletter
Lead team in service
  • Plan and facilitate bi-monthly team meetings
  • Actively assist each team member's leadership development utilizing leadership competencies, skill development planning, action and reflection
  • Mentor individual team members in side-by-side direct service, planning, problem solving, evaluation, and active civic engagement
  • Ensure members understand project data collection tools and reporting schedules
  • Plan and coordinate team building activities
  • Attend parent involvement activities as needed at sites
  • Assist members with self-reflection and process evaluation to continually improve members efforts within their Family Resource Center
  • Assist members in understanding how to secure resources to support Center activities
